I decided to write an article about all the best accessories you can have on your keyboard. In fact, all the best accessories can be used on multiple keyboards, so I recommend you read the article if you want something very different.
These accessories are useful for those who play, need to type, and much more, in fact they are essential for many things if you want the truth.

1. Wrist Rests
An intimate accessory for those who want comfort or for those who are feeling pain when typing.
I used to type for hours every day without one, and my wrists paid the price. Wrist rests provide support that helps keep your hands aligned and relaxed.

2. Keycap Pullers
One of the most useful tools of all time, keycaps are very useful for keyboards..
I keep two types on hand: the wire style (which I recommend) and the plastic ring type (which I only use in emergencies).
Keycap pullers make it easy to safely remove your caps without scratching your switches or keys. If you’re into cleaning or customizations, this tool is non-negotiable.

3. Artisan Keycaps: Personality in Plastic
Artisan keycaps are little works of art. Whether it’s a tiny dragon on your escape key or a glow-in-the-dark skull, they bring character to your setup.
I wrote an entire post about artisan keycap—check it out here: Why Keyboard Enthusiasts Love Artisan Keycaps.
4. Switch Pullers: For the Tinkerers
If you’re working with hot-swappable keyboards, switch pullers are your best friend. I love hot-swap boards because they let me experiment with different switch types without needing to desolder anything.
Switch pullers are usually made of metal and are specifically designed to remove switches safely. Using the wrong tool—or worse, your fingers—can damage your board. Been there, done that.
Want to know how different switches work? You should definitely read: The Science Behind Key Switches. It breaks everything down in a simple way.

5. Lube Kits: Smooth Moves Only
One of the best upgrades you can do for your mechanical keyboard is lubing your switches. It takes time, patience, and a steady hand, but the payoff? Smoother, quieter, silkier keystrokes.
I use a basic lube kit that includes a switch opener, brushes, and lubricant. You don’t need to go all out—a simple Krytox or Tribosys works great.
Also, if you’re not sure about switch noise, check out Silent Mechanical Keyboards: Are They Worth It?. There’s a section there that compares lubing vs buying silent switches.
6. Custom Cables: Aesthetics Matter Too
Custom coiled cables aren’t just pretty—they’re also practical. With USB-C and aviator connectors, they offer better cable management and longevity.
I got mine in purple to match my RGB lighting, and let me tell you, it takes the whole desk setup from basic to baller instantly. Sites like CableMod have tons of color options if you’re looking for inspiration.

7. Desk Mats: Big, Bold, and Functional
A desk mat does more than make your setup look good. It also protects your desk, absorbs sound, and keeps your keyboard from sliding around.
I like large, stitched-edge mats that cover both my keyboard and mouse. Themes range from anime to cyberpunk, minimalist to loud and colorful.
It’s a subtle touch, but it adds a whole lot of personality. I personally rotate mine depending on the season. (Yes, I’m that guy 😄)
8. Sound Dampening Mods: No More Clack-Clack
There’s a whole rabbit hole of sound mods, from O-rings to foam mods, tape mods, and even case dampening kits.
Each one brings a different feel and sound. Want that deep “thock” instead of a sharp “clack”? Try PE foam. Want less rattle? Lube your stabilizers and use dampening rings.
Here’s a deeper look at mods you can try: 10 Mechanical Keyboard Mods to Improve Your Typing.

9. Keyboard Stands or Trays: Display Your Collection
If you’re collecting keyboards (which I totally encourage), you’ll want a way to show them off. Keyboard stands and trays help keep everything organized and eye-catching.
Acrylic or metal stands are great for desk setups, and trays help store your boards safely. Plus, they just look cool.
One of my favorite things is switching keyboards depending on my mood. It’s like picking out shoes!
10. Cleaning Kits: Keep It Fresh
No one likes typing on a grimy board. A good cleaning kit includes brushes, compressed air, and microfiber cloths. Some even include mini vacuums!
A clean board not only looks good but also lasts longer. Want to learn how to clean it without messing anything up? I’ve got you: How to Clean Your Keyboard Without Damaging It.

Final Thoughts: Accessories Turn a Keyboard Into an Experience
I think that accessories are useful for many things, in fact, accessories will help you a lot to make your keyboard the way you need and want, but consider not spending too much, it’s horrible to spend rivers and rivers of money knowing that you could sometimes buy a new and better keyboard..
And if you’ve got a favorite accessory I didn’t mention here, drop a comment and let me know! I’m always on the lookout for cool gear to test.
