As I’m making a lot of tier lists now, I decided to make one about custom keyboards, which in my opinion was one of the hardest tier lists to make since I don’t have most of them so I had to look very carefully and study a lot about some of them.
I used several criteria, many of them simple, others more used by the community, such as performance design, and even its appearance on your keyboard.
What Is a Custom Keyboard Mod?
Custom keyboards mods are basically upgrades to your keyboards. They can be better for the sound, look, performance and in some cases they can completely change the design of your keyboard.
Most people just put a custom mod, while some have the entire keyboard as a custom keyboard mod.

S-Tier Mods (Best Mods)
These mods for me are the best options and bring everything that I believe is a true highlight for these mods.
1. Switch Lubing
Ilubing switches is great in the keyboard world. It takes time, but it’s important.
- What it does: Reduces noise
- Why it matters: Your keyboard looks like new again.
- Personal tip: Use Krytox 205g0—it’s the best option.

4. Switch Swapping
Changing switches is good for those who want to test new switches.
- What it does: Good for testing different tactile.

B-Tier Mods (Not so Good not so Bad)
They are cool mods, but not that important, in fact I don’t use most of them.
6. Tape Mod
You literally put tape on the back of your PCB for a deeper sound.
- What it does: Good sound.
- Why it matters: If you are having problems with keyboard noise, this may be the solution.
- Caution: Might not work well on all boards.
🤷♂️ C-Tier Mods (Bad Mods)
7. Case Weights
Just for looks, I don’t recommend them much, they don’t serve many purposes and are completely dispensable mods..
- What it does: Makes the board heavier.
- Why it matters: Only relevant if you really care about looks.

Final Thoughts
Mods are good, but not all mods are mandatory for your keyboard, in fact I don’t have most of them, so my tip is for you to see what you need to apply to your keyboard.
And don’t forget to test it too, because it may be that some of the mods I mentioned in tier s aren’t the best for you, that’s important to say.
